Fritz Leiber was born in Chicago and graduated from the University in Chicago. Leiber became an editor for a local book publisher later. His first published story appeared in 1939.
He received Hugo awards for the best novel, novella or short story in 1958, 1965, 1968, 1970, 1971, and 1976, a Special Hugo award in 1962 and the Gandalf Hugo award for grand mastery in 1975.
He also received the Nebula award for best novel or novelette in 1967, 1970 and 1975.
Leiber is best known for his sword and sorcery tales of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. Those rapidly paced stories set in Lankhmar, the great city of adventure, tell of swashbuckling
actions, thievery, evil villains, magic and beautiful women.
Fritz Leiber died in 1992.
