Collectors arcana: The original Dragonquest was a RPG produced by SPI in 1980 with a second edition following in 1982. TSR acquired the trademark and produced 3rd edition of the rules and one module to accompany it - The Shattered Statue DQ1 which was a "crossover" system adventure designed to be compatible with both AD&D and Dragonquest. This version of Dragon Quest has nothing whatsoever in common with its predecessors and is essentially an introductory Roleplaying system with the elements of a boardgame. It is designed primarily to attract new, young people to the game of Dungeons & Dragons. In this new boardgame format, the name Dragonquest was changed to two separate words: Dragon Quest.
